In 1907, Portland photographer H F Bartels made this image looking south from Tillamook Head. His vantage point lies in the future Ecola State Park.
When Ecola State Park opened, state empoyees took publicity photos such as this view from the main parking lot, site of the CCC camp in 1935.
In 1935, state park officials secured a CCC camp on Tillamook Head to develop Ecola State Park. One of the CCC workers photographed the camp and scenes such as this looking south toward Cannon Beach.
CCC camps operated as part of the U S Army. The typical camp had 200 young men and 25 or 30 officers and staff.
